Summary

A New York woman apprentices for a dance company and throws herself headlong into her dreams, even as the possibility of realising them dwindles.

Story

This entire film was shot in Canon 5D Mark II. Majority of the shots are beautifully composed stills.

A 27yo Frances - unemployed, deeply flawed, but capable, but also stuck in her comfort zone tries to figure out her life.

She was super attached with her roommate/best-friend and even left her boyfriend for her (Kinda). But her bestie leaves her to stay in with her partner and Frances moves in with 2 guys. She gets multiple opportunities to work at places but she denies them all adamantly because she wants to be a dancer. She ends up fighting with her best friend because Frances didn’t approve of the person she’s with. She gets into debt because of a Paris trip that she could’ve avoided. Amongst a lot of messy things. One of her roommate with whom she used to watch movies randomly on mid day, calls her undate-able.

Regardless, eventually they all grow up, few years pass I guess, and by then Frances has become a dance choreographer and she does an amazing job at it. Her best friend is married. And the roommate who teased her as an un-date-able person is seen asking her if she’s single, of course he’s going to hit on her so she probably ends up finding someone as well.

Makes you feel like everything will be alright eventually, & sometimes thats enough motivation to pull through :)

Dialogues

1. Frances:It’s that thing when you’re with someone, and you love them and they know it, and they love you and you know it… but it’s a party… and you’re both talking to other people, and you’re laughing and shining… and you look across the room and catch each other’s eyes… but – but not because you’re possessive, or it’s precisely sexual… but because… that is your person in this life. And it’s funny and sad, but only because this life will end, and it’s this secret world that exists right there in public, unnoticed, that no one else knows about. It’s sort of like how they say that other dimensions exist all around us, but we don’t have the ability to perceive them. That’s – That’s what I want out of a relationship.

2. Frances:I’m so embarrassed. I’m not a real person yet.

3. Frances:I like things that look like mistakes.

4. Andy:So, what do you do?

Frances: It’s kinda hard to explain.

Andy: Because what you do is complicated?

Frances: Because I don’t really do it.

5. Frances: I’m poor.

Benji: That’s offensive to actual poor people.

6. Frances: Do I look old to you?

Benji: No. Yes.

Frances: How old?

Benji: Older than I am.

Frances: Older than 27?

Benji: No. 27 is old, though.

7. Frances: I have so much to do. I think I’ll probably read Proust … Because sometimes it’s good to do what you’re supposed to do when you’re supposed to do it.

8. Benji: I think it’s a great day … I Internet-acquired three pairs of very rare Ray-Bans. I’m doing awesome.

9. Benji: 'Frances: undateable.'

10. Frances: I love you, Sophie, even if you love your phone that has e-mail more than you love me.

Sophie: My phone that has e-mail doesn’t leave a casserole dish in the sink for three days.
