Weathering with You

Set during a period of exceptionally rainy weather, high-school boy Hodaka Morishima runs away from his troubled rural home to Tokyo and befriends an orphan girl who can manipulate the weather.

Short review

A love story about finding your *sunshine girl* and committing to her, protecting and not letting go of her, regardless of what the world might ask you to sacrifice. The world’s always been crazy anyways.

Story (Spoiler)

A warm love story of Hodaka & Hina. Hodaka escapes his family and town to come to Tokyo where he falls in love with a restaurant waitress, Hina. She is a ‘Sunshine girl’ (an urban legend) where she possesses the ability to create sunny day when its raining. But her existence is also a curse to Tokyo because it never stops raining. And as she tries to bring sunshine more often, she realises that her body is fading. Eventually she’ll be taken away from the world as a sacrifice and then Tokyo’s weather will be alright. She finally sacrifices herself but Hodaka goes through heaven and back to get her back to the world. Tokyo starts flooding in the long run almost all the downtown areas go under water. But its kinda okay because the world has always been crazy weird. They meet each other after 3 years once Hodaka graduates from college and probably live happily ever after

Dialogues

Hodaka: Dear God, if you exist, please don’t take anything more, and don’t give anything more.

Hodaka: I’ve chosen her, I’ve chosen this world, I’ve chosen to live here.

Hodaka: Who cares if we don’t see the sun shine ever again? I want you more than any blue sky, the weather can go crazy.

Hodaka: I found it suffocating to live with my parents, And in that town.

Mr. Suga: The world’s always been crazy anyways.
